What is Don'tDumpThat?
Don’tDumpThat is a non-profit community initiative promoting reuse and the reduction of waste. It is run entirely by volunteers and managed by a board of Trustees, who are also volunteers.
Don’tDumpThat provides a quick, easy, and free way to get rid of things you don’t want without them ending up in a landfill site. All you have to do is find your nearest Don’tDumpThat forum, register with a username of your choice and your email address - and you’re ready to go. Quick and simple.
The origins of Don'tDumpThat
Don’tDumpThat began in January 2006 as a service for the people of Lincoln, UK, but was soon so successful that people in other parts of the county were asking to start their own Don’tDumpThat forums. Today, Don’tDumpThat has a growing active membership of over 12,500 people across the UK.
Why do we need Don'tDumpThat?
The United Kingdom dumps more household waste into landfill than any other EU state. Every hour 3000 tonnes of rubbish is dumped in landfill - enough every day to fill the Royal Albert Hall four times over. By 2016 there will no landfill space remaining in the UK.
Sadly, the majority of what is thrown away every day is reusable and is only in landfill because most people don’t know what else to do with it - the rubbish bin is the easy option. Don’tDumpThat is providing at least part of the solution by offering a free online service that helps people reuse, recycle and reduce the amount of perfectly useful but otherwise unwanted household items going into landfill sites.
By reusing those things no longer needed by others we can reduce waste, spend less, save energy and preserve the Earth for future generations.
"We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children"
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900-1944)
